Jewelry care

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELRY

Proper care of your jewelry allows you to maintain its beauty for many years and avoid unnecessary damage.

Silver jewelry is not a “maintenance-free” product.
It is a precious metal, but reactive – it requires regular care.

If you decide to choose silver, it is worth having basic accessories on hand to care for it.

Basic care:

We recommend gently wiping your jewelry once a month using a special silver care cloth.

This allows you to:

  • prevent dulling
  • remove traces of skin, perfume, food and other substances,
  • maintain the natural shine of the metal

⚠️ Do not clean pearls with a silver cloth.

Silver cleaning cloths are impregnated with a gentle cleaning agent and should be a basic element of home care.

We do not recommend:

  • aggressive liquid preparations
  • "chemical baths"

because they can remove intentional oxidation and damage the metal surface.

What to avoid (most important)

Don't treat jewelry (silver and silver-plated) as a piece of clothing that can be worn anytime, anywhere.

Avoid:

  • perfumes applied directly to jewelry,
  • applying creams and oils while wearing it,
  • cleaning and contact with detergents,
  • washing dishes,
  • swimming pool (chlorine),
  • bath (especially hot),
  • sea and ocean (salt is highly corrosive),
  • intense physical exertion.

Sweat + friction = faster wear.

Rings are particularly vulnerable because they come into direct contact with surfaces, water and chemicals.

If you wear several chains at the same time, they rub against each other, which can accelerate surface wear.

Sulfur = blackening (very important)

Silver reacts with substances containing sulfur compounds.
The result? Blackening, spots, dulling—sometimes very quickly.

Contact with sulfur can even occur through:

  • cosmetics and care products,
  • detergents,
  • food (e.g. eggs, onions, garlic),
  • some materials and rubber.
  • sweat and salt naturally present on the skin.

Wear jewelry on dry skin

After using cosmetics, wait a moment before putting on jewelry. It really makes a difference.

GOLD PLATED JEWELRY

Gold plating is a layer of metal applied to silver.

It is natural that over time:

  • it will wear off, it may shine,
  • In places of friction it may expose the silver substrate.

This is not a product defect. It's a natural part of use.

The abrasion rate depends on:

  • way of wearing,
  • frequency of contact with water,
  • contact with chemicals,
  • friction (e.g. carrying several items together).

The condition of your jewelry depends mainly on you - that's why care and proper storage are so important.

If the gold plating starts to revert to raw silver faster than expected, the most common cause is intensive use or contact with chemicals.

STORAGE

  • Store jewelry separately (in a bag or box).
  • Best conditions: dark (away from sunlight), dry, cool.
  • Don't store jewelry in the bathroom - moisture will accelerate darkening.
  • Don't throw several items together - they rub and tangle.

FROM REAL LIFE - WHY DO DARK SPOTS APPEAR ON SILVER?

Silver is a noble metal, but it's also highly reactive . It reacts with, among other things, sulfur, which is found in many everyday things. Sometimes, even a brief, spot-like contact is enough to cause a darker spot or dot to appear on the surface.

The most common, quite prosaic causes include:

  • food residues (e.g. eggs, onions, garlic, mustard) or contact with rubber/latex,

  • cosmetics and care products (creams, perfumes, hairsprays, shampoos - many of them contain sulfur or zinc compounds),

  • fingerprint + salt - salt naturally present on the skin combined with moisture can cause spot color changes,

  • a drop of sweat, perfume or water that has dried in one place and reacted with the silver surface.

Such changes are normal and reversible - in most cases, gentle cleaning with a silver cloth is enough to return the jewelry to its original appearance.

JEWELRY LIVES WITH YOU

Silver jewelry has its own unique nature – it responds to the world, to everyday life, to the moments in which it's worn. And there's something beautiful about that. Caring for it isn't a chore, but rather part of our relationship with it: a moment when we slow down, gently wipe it, and often reflect on the stories it holds.

This is why we like silver - because it allows us to be close.
It changes, matures, and we can take care of it, just like we take care of the things that matter to us.
